The Gap You Might Be Feeling
You’ve been growing your top line for years, but your paycheck isn’t any bigger. There’s no additional profit on the income statement. And there’s no extra cash in the company’s coffers.
So where is it all going?
This is one of the most common situations I walk into and it’s usually not a mystery once the right person is looking at it.
Sometimes it’s a product or service mix issue in which revenue is growing on low-margin products while high-margin ones are ignored. Sometimes it’s a compensation structure that rewards the wrong behavior. Sometimes it’s a growth plan funded by the profit it was supposed to generate.
You deserve an answer to these questions. Even more importantly, you deserve a plan to fix it.
What I Actually Do
I work with entrepreneurs running small to lower middle market companies as their strategic financial partner.
That’s not bookkeeping and it’s not tax planning. It’s the layer of strategic thinking that most companies this size don’t have access to.
That means building financial models that help you make decisions. Analyzing where your cash is going and why. Creating growth plans that are profitable, fundable and realistic. Spotting the problems that the people closest to your numbers aren’t equipped to see.
One client came to me after two years of 20–25% revenue growth, wondering why none of it was showing up in his bank account. His controller couldn’t answer the question. Neither could the part-time chief financial officer he’d been working with.
It turned out the revenue was growing in all the wrong places, including low-margin products with a compensation structure that rewarded salespeople the same, no matter what they sold.
We changed the focus, restructured the commission plans and over the next several years, revenue grew 4–5x while profit margins jumped dramatically.
That’s the kind of problem I solve.
“I’m not the kind of advisor who hands you a stack of spreadsheets and calls it a day. If I see something that’s hurting your business –even if it’s in sales or operations rather than finance – I’ll say something.
Because the numbers always tell a bigger story than what’s on the page.”
Not Just for Established Companies
While most of my work is with companies that are already generating revenue, I also work with entrepreneurs in the pre-revenue stage. If you’re building something that requires my help with financial modeling, forecasting, pitch decks, or raising capital, that’s part of what I do, too.
The earlier you get your financial strategy right, the fewer expensive mistakes you make later.
How It Works
I work on a month-to-month basis because I believe you should keep working with me because I’m delivering value. Not because you’re locked in. If I’m not helping, you’re free to walk away. It’s that simple.
If your company has outgrown what a bookkeeper or controller can tell you and you’re ready for someone who can help you understand your numbers in the context of where you’re trying to go, let’s talk.
